Buenos Aires, January 19 (NA) – Anamá Ferreira spoke out on social media regarding the case of Agostina Páez, an Argentine lawyer and influencer who was detained in Rio de Janeiro after being filmed making racist gestures towards bar workers. According to the Argentine News Agency, the young woman, from Santiago del Estero, was intercepted by the Military Police, is under investigation, had her passport seized, and was ordered to wear an electronic ankle bracelet while the Justice system defines her situation. From her X (formerly Twitter) account, Ferreira flatly rejected attempts to downplay the episode: “What that girl shouted is not an 'outburst', it's racism, and racism is not to be downplayed, justified, or applauded.” She also called for an exemplary punishment: “Let it be an example: freedom of expression does not include humiliating or hating. I remind you that it is a crime under Brazilian law.” She then cited legislation to support her argument: “Law No. 14.532/2023 equated racial insult with the crime of racism. Should she be in prison or do you think it's okay to be racist? I hope you spend a few years in prison in Brazil.” Shortly after, she reinforced her position with a sharp phrase that quickly went viral: “I want her in prison.” Ferreira's strong condemnation even led to a public exchange with lawyer Mauricio D'Alessandro, who questioned the Brazilian judicial decision by stating: “They imprison a 29-year-old girl for making a gorilla gesture at a couple of excited guys, it's madness.” Anamá's response was immediate: “Madness in what sense? Both offenses are imprescriptible and non-bailable, and they provide for harsher penalties.”
